[Coverage] Formula Drift Singapore! |

Formula DRIFT rolled through Singapore this past weekend in a major way. In conjunction with Binter, the Formula DRIFT team entertained a sold out crowd of 11,000 spectators on Sunday, April 27, 2008. Touted as the largest organized drift event in the Asian region, drivers from Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Japan and the USA competed in the familiar FormulaD format. FD Singapore was held at the new Changi Exhibition Center, which previously played host to the 2008 Singapore Airshow. In typical FormulaD fashion, there were exciting crashes and tandem battles after the field of nearly 40 drivers were narrowed down to just 16. In the end Ryuji Miki drifted to the top spot, with local Malaysia driver Tengku Djan coming in a close second after spinning out before the finish line in the final round. Adding to the excitement, in the consolation round MadMike in his 3-rotor FDRX7 sent Conrad Grunewald’s RSR S2000 limping off the track with a damaged front suspension. The first annual, Formula DRIFT Singapore event was a major success; we only hope that the owners decide to continue to support this event and bring it back to Singapore in the coming years! Team Ikon, established in the summer of 1996, represents such hard core dedication and enthusiasm for the automotive world in its founded city of Houston, Texas. Now with more and more chapters opening from the original four founding members it takes a discerning eye to be a part of Team Ikon. To be an Ikon member is to be a literal translation of the word in the form of a car.
