Using water cooling lines necessary?

Just asking for a friend.

If a turbo is both water and oil cooled. Is it necessary to use the water lines?

If not a turbo timer is mandatory. Correct?

Ball-bearing turbos (like what you have) can run on oil lines, but you have to be more careful about coking up your lines when you turn off your car. Timers aren't mandatory unless you aren't disciplined enough to shut your car off correctly and consistently. Personally, I would run the coolant lines to avoid trouble.

None of that is necessary but definitely doesn't hurt. Just don't do pull after pull after pull without letting it cool down a little

Depends on the turbo. Most turbo that have water jackets are water cooled and oil lubricated. The oil does some cooling, but they are INTENDED for use with water cooling for proper operation and longevity.

so To answer your question it is not necessary to use
but for precautionary, safety and long term proformance use of his turbo it would be wise to run both
and to answer the turbo timer question I have turbo cars and non aspirated cars I still run a turbo timer on all! just for safety precaution and long term use

Cooling lines aren't a must, but do work well for those who run their turbos hot and then turn off the car. Now I don't know what you are doing or how you drive, but most times you turn off the vehicle after driving calmly to your destinations, for example you drive like a mad dog on your way to your house, but have to slow down to drive through the short streets of follow small street traffic rules so by the time you get there the turbo is cooled enough(not extremely hot).
