i would definitely say that since hes been sober his creativity with music has gone down.

Mos Def has 1 good album not including Blackstarr. He sings too much, and he and Talib are the post children for squandered talent. Krs is a bit too preachy for my tastes, never cared for Redman as a musician although he's funny as shit.

i always check for new musc from:

eminem
outkast
I think these are consistent and can stand the test of time.

I also like/liked:
tupac
biggie
wutang
geto boys
ugk
snoop

i think lyrics play a part of what makes an artist great, they need to have mic presence, good beat selection and engaging content.
